HTB Electrical Contractors - Case Studies

We have undertaken a full range of work on both Off-Shore and On-shore projects some of these are highlighted below:

Lincs Offshore Wind Farm

  • Location: 8km off the east coast of England
  • Turbines: 75 x 3.6 MW
  • Max Power Generation: 270 MW

Lincs Offshore Wind Farm is situated 8km off the east coast of England and consists of 75 turbines, construction of the wind farm began in 2010, and full operation is expected to begin in late 2013. Upon final completion this wind farm will meet the annual power consumption requirements of 200,000 homes, significantly reducing CO2 emissions.

Lincs Offshore Wind Farm - HTB Electrical Contractors

HTB were appointed principle contractor installing all HV Terminations (including the stripping and routing), Fibre Optic Terminations, LV works and all cable containment design and installation works. We also provided confined space entry teams to assist with the foundation monitoring system installation. Waste removal / guano cleaning teams and teams of opito trained riggers to assist with any lifting on site allowing the works to be complete swiftly and safely.

HTB were also asked to provide two SAP's (Senior Authorised Persons) to assist with the energisation and commissioning of the final two array strings on the Lincs wind farm. The role changed swiftly and both personnel were requested to become commissioning coordinators assisting with the day to day coordination between Siemens Wind Power, HTB and the Centrica commissioning team

Lynn and Inner Dowsing Operations and maintenance SAP resource

  • Location: Liverpool Bay 7.5km off North Wales
  • Turbines: 54 x 3.6MW
  • Max Power Generation: 194 MW

Lynn and Inner Dowsing Wind Farm are located in the North Sea, in the shallow waters off the coast of Lincolnshire, England. Completed on time and on budget in 2008, its 54 Siemens Wind Power 3.6MW wind turbines have a generating capacity of 194 MW, enough to power 130,000 homes on average.

Following the successful installation of all turbines during projects HTB were asked to provide SAP resource and a number of technicians to assist with the daily O&M control and site issues. HTB still continues to provide this service to LID O&M at this moment in time. Our SAP's have always strived to minimise downtime on the wind farm assisting with any problems which may arise.

We have conducted numerous Euromould termination inspections across the site and also assisted with a HV switchgear change when needed, these works were completed swiftly and safely and resulted in the Array half string being isolated for a maximum of 15 hours.


North Hoyle Offshore Wind farm

  • Location: Liverpool Bay 7.5km off North Wales
  • Turbines: 30 x 2MW
  • Max Power Generation: 60MW

North Hoyle Offshore Wind Farm is Wales' first Offshore Wind Farm, and the UK's first major offshore renewable power project. Situated in Liverpool Bay, it commenced operation in 2003.The first of the UK's Round 1 offshore wind farm, North Hoyle covers an area of 10 square kilometers (3.9 sq mi)

Hoyle Offshore Wind Farm - HTB Electrical contractors

HTB were called in to inspect a suspected faulty HV connection on one of the offshore foundations. We were called on the Monday and supplied all equipment needed to complete the task by Thursday morning. The inspection was carried out and reinstalled within the day ensuring minimum downtime costs were incurred.

Burbo Bank Offshore Wind Farm

  • Location: Burbo Flats Liverpool Bay
  • Turbines: 25 x 3.6MW
  • Max Power Generation: 90MW

The Burbo Bank Offshore Wind Farm is a located on the Burbo Flats in Liverpool Bay at the entrance to the River Mersey. It is owned and operated by DONG Energy. The wind farm will also help to mitigate climate change as over the 20-year operating life it will save approximately 6.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

Burbo Bank Offshore Wind Farm - HTB Electrical contractors

HTB were sought to provide SAP resource to conduct numerous transformer isolations, inspections and repairs. We were asked to provide this service within relatively short notice and duly did so completing the task to minimize down time on all foundations.

Onshore Wind Farm Projects

Our technicians are have a comprehensive understanding of onshore Wind Farm projects. HTB Personnel have assisted with installing cable runs between the transformers and the wind turbine and also all terminations and testing prior to grid connection on various onshore Wind Farms including:

Altahullion 2 Onshore Wind Farm

  • Location: County L'derry, Northern Ireland
  • Turbines: 9 x 1.3MW
  • Max Power Generation: 11.7MW

The nine turbine extension to Altahullion Wind Farm, near Dungiven County L'derry, was commissioned in 2007. The nine new turbines provide an additional 11.7 megawatts of power. The extension takes the total number of turbines at Altahullion to 29, with a total power capacity of 37.7 megawatts. The extension was developed and built by RES.

Black Hill Onshore Wind Farm

  • Location: Scottish Borders
  • Turbines: 22 x 1.3MW
  • Max Power Generation: 28.6MW

Black Hill Wind Farm is located between Duns and Longformacus in the Scottish Borders and was granted planning consent on 2nd July 2001. The project comprises of 22 turbines of 1.3MW rating with an overall tip height of 78m. The wind farm became fully operational in February 2007.

Callagheen Onshore Wind Farm

  • Location: County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland
  • Turbines: 13 x 1.3MW
  • Max Power Generation: 16.9MW

Callagheen wind farm is situated between Belleek and Garrison in Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. It received full planning permission on appeal in April 2004. Callagheen wind farm began operating in March 2006 and is capable of generating up to 17 megawatts of cleaner greener power from it's turbines.

Glens of Foudland Onshore Wind Farm

  • Location: Aberdeenshire, Scotland
  • Turbines: 20 x 1.3MW
  • Max Power Generation: 26MW

The Glens of Foudland Wind Farm is located close to Huntly Aberdeenshire in the North East of Scotland. Construction of the 20 x 1.3MW turbines began in June 2005 and was completed by the end of that Summer. The wind farm will generate electricity equivalent to the annual needs of over 20,000 homes.

HTB Personnel were tasked with installing the cable runs between the transformers and the wind turbine and also all terminations and testing prior to grid connection.

Mynydd Clogau Onshore Wind Farm

  • Location: Powys, Wales
  • Turbines: 17 x 850kW
  • Max Power Generation: 14.45MW

The Mynydd Clogau Wind Farm is located close to Newtown, Powys in mid Wales and was developed by RES with partner Novera Energy.Construction of the site began in January 2005 and it was opened in July 2006. The wind farm will generate enough electricity equivalent to the annual needs of over 8000 homes.

Beennageeha Onshore Wind Farm

  • Location: County Kerry, Ireland
  • Turbines: 6 x 660kW
  • Max Power Generation: 3.96MW

The Wind Farm at Beennageeha is situated in County Kerry in Ireland midway between the towns of Tralee and Listowel. It Consists of 6 Vestas V47 Turbines. Beennageeha began generating in June of 2000 and is contracted to supply power to ESB under the Alternative Energy Requirement (AERIII) power purchase agreement
